Lunga vs Sante

Iam Sante


Lunga Dlova (also known as Sante) is a South African Biodiversity and Environmental Scientist. He was born on the 12 August 1985, in Idutywa.He has two other brothers, Ntsikelelo (older brother) and Wandisile (younger brother). 

He started his schooling at various schools, went to Ntaphane Junior Secondary School in Umtata. In 2005 he matriculated at Khanyisa High School in Umtata. 

Lunga a.k.a Sante then went on to study Environmental Science at Walter Sisulu University of Science and Technology. 

His Science career began in 2010 while doing some voluntary work on National Environmental Volunteer for 2010 FIFA World Cup, a National Greening campaign in East London. Where he was an advocacy on environmental related issues, climate change, Tourism and Eco-tourism services. 


In November 2010, Lunga a.k.a Sante was employed by DNF Waste and Environmental Services (courtesy of Services SETA) as an Environmental intern, where he was part of the team doing a Biodiversity Management: Plant nomenclature, identification, and a management system for floral occurance within Mercedes Benz site in East London, also involved in Environmental Management Systems Implementation (ISO 14001;2004), Environmental Management Training: Basic Waste Management Training (NQF level 1), Environmental Audits. 


After five months, he then got a DST-NRF Internship Programme 2011/12 and was place in Durban (Kwa-Zulu Natal) at the South African National Biodiversity Institute (within the Early Detection and Rapid Response Programme) as a Biodiversity and research intern. His focus was mainly on Terrestrial Invasive Alien Plants  in Kwa-Zulu Natal (Proposed under NEMBA Act: Category 1a), collate and capture invasive alien plants data, keep and update relevant records. 

Lunga then went back to East London, where he was employed by a construction company (Stefanutti stocks) as a Safety, Health, and Environmental Officer intern. He only worked one month and realized he did not have passion for the construction industry.  
He then went to Johannesburg, where he got a call from one of the fast growing non governmental companies Wordlink Media (courtesy of Working for Water Programme) as a Biodiversity Communications intern. He is currently part of the team working on Cape Town invasive species website, Invasive Species South African facebook page, research and other communication duties.

His dream is to be an Environmental Officer within the government sector, and take one step at a time.....
